Cloud based management portal
Surfwall Remote web interface allows lets you securely manage your web filtering policy wherever you are without need for any desktop management software
The portal gives you access to all the features of Surfwall Remote. This is where you configure your policies and run reports – all in an interface designed to look familiar to users used to work with Windows Server.
You can also configure security permissions to give various levels of access to different administrators.
Real-time management Dashboard
The dashboard shows you the key events and statistics as they unfold throughout the day.
The real-time statistics include users online, top sites, top categories and blocked web pages. You can easily create exclusions for web access within the dashboard itself without having to open the policy editor. The information can by instantly displayed by users, sessions or bandwidth.
Custom report export formats
You can choose major file formats and custom reporting intervals – different managers can even subscribe to different reports.
The reporting formats include PDF, XLS, HTML and RTF formats. Once you subscribed to any report, you can also fully customise its delivery frequency, formats and recipients.
Each dashboard panel is resizable, collapsible and movable.
Surfwall Remote gives you the means to organise your web policy management exactly in the way you want it so that it fits with how you work, not the other way round. You can also customise the layout and resize the panels to maximise your individual screen resolution.
Each manager can be given his or her own dashboard, allowing them to manage their team’s web access policy directly.
When a manager is given his oor her own dashboard access, they can do everything administrator could do on their local level - view usage stats, subscribe to management reports on so on. The security model here follows the same ideas as NTFS file permissions – initially there is no access, until you gradually allow extra layers based on security groups or organisational units.
Single click exclusions
You can allow individual sites directly from the dashboard – without having to open the policy editor
Saving administrator's time was a key design goal in the Dashboard design. We have designed the dashboard so that any site or category could be allowed with a single mouse click. When the administrator selects an item that has been blocked, a pop-up menu appears offering various options how this site or category could be excluded. There's no need to open the policy editor.
Extensive web categorisation system
Surfwall covers web usage in 90+ categories, giving you granular control over access to them
The categories include the obvious areas of interest such as adult, gambling, games and video streaming sites. With over 90 categories to choose from, you can be assured that the Surfwall Remote policy will accurately reflect your real life requirements.
Mix & match web access permissions
You can easily manage who has access to which web category based on multiple criteria
Access to a web site category (or an individual site) can be based on any combination of:
- User names
- Organisational units
- Security groups
- IP address ranges
- Roaming users
This gives you virtually unlimited flexibly in configuring access rights.
As permissions are layered - Surfwall Remote will not lead you into a blind alley of policies that clash with each other.
End-user friendly option allows web users get temporary access to categories that would be normally blocked
On some occasions employees may, for a legitimate reason, need access to sites that are normally blocked.
In order to save everyone’s time – there’s an option in Surfwall that you can enable to allow employees to self-certify that they need temporary access to a specific site, without having to open a support request internally. Access is then temporarily granted, and you can review the request at your own leisure, allowing or disallowing future visits to the site in question.
You can allow sites or site categories during specific times of day or for a specific period of time.
The time control features in Surfwall Remote reflect our customers ‘complex needs to have flexible and employee friendly web access policies.
While one organisation may allow Facebook only during fixed lunchtime, another one may decide to let everyone use it for up to 30 minutes per day, giving the flexibility to end users when to use their allowance whenever they wish.
Of course, you may be interested in allowing Facebook at all times, in which case you can read below about the fine-tuning social networking policy with our other controls.
Manual & dynamic automatic site categorisation
Millions of sites categorised by our researchers and hundreds of millions by our automated systems
Surfwall Remote mixed human and automated approach for best results in categorising web traffic. Our team of experienced researchers continuously review our categorisation of the most popular sites, while automated systems categorise sites on the fly based on their URL, page and meta-content analysis. This ensures that Surfwall can categorise web access instantly upon first page request and recheck it every time the page is subsequently accessed.
Social networking controls
Surfwall Remote integrates with Facebook, Twitter and other social networking sites.
Allowing employees to use Social Networking sites productively is a challenge most organisations face today.
Surfwall Remote allows you to allow such access, but have a fine level of control over how to make the Social Networking access productive, or at least not disruptive.
You could for example allow access to Facebook and let employees catch up with family and friends, but at the same time restrict access to Facebook games – all manageable within the Surfwall Remote portal.
Easy management of web site and category exclusions from within the portal
In a traditional web filtering software, exclusion lists can quickly build up and make the management of the entire solution cumbersome.
Surfwall Remote improves exclusion management by letting you add them directly within the dashboard. Users can also add exclusions using the self-certify option you can allow for some site categories.
Option to enforce Strict Search across all major search engines.
One of the no so well known features of search engines is that they can filter undesirable sites automatically. But this option requires you to customise search preferences for every user which is often not practical in a business environment.
Surfwall Remote allows you do enforce Strict Search for all of your users across the board.
We highly recommend trying this option out – it changes the dynamics of web filtering by allowing the filtering solution to compliment the search engine’s security rather than allowing it to show results that it would then block.
benefit from the intelligence on latest threats gathered through email filtering
Modern threats blend together – and this is why you need a solution that can take the best bits of information from various sources and deliver on-time protection.
Consider a scenario where the end user receives email link pointing him or her to a phishing site – even though the treat slipped via email, your organisation could compromised by the end user entering information on a web page.
Surfwall Remote utilises email traffic intelligence gathered from Mailwall Remote, protecting your web traffic against the same threats – even if you are not a Mailwall Remote customer.
Google Safe Browsing
Real-time site check against Google Safe Browsing database
One of many great things provided by Google is their Safe Browsing database. Surfwall Remote interfaces with it and queries sites you visit to see if Google itself actively lists them as involved in distribution of malware. If it does, access will be blocked.
